How to assess the quality of research – ExPECT

The video addresses the question of how the quality of research can be assessed. It elaborates on key aspects of high-quality research, such as (1) methodological rigor, (2) transparency, (3) the importance of embracing open science principles, (4) the need to assess the originality, salience, and substantiality of the research output, as well as the diversity of research outputs beyond just publications, (5) the value of failure and falsification and (6) the importance of reproducibility and the potential impact of the research, both in terms of theoretical understanding and practical solutions.

CoARA ExPECT, supported by CoARA Boost funding, represents a collaborative initiative involving the University of Oulu, Ruhr University Bochum, and Tampere University. The Teaming project from Cascade Funding Call 1 actively advances CoARA's vision to reform researcher assessment practices. The video catalogue produced by the CoARA ExPECT project has been formally endorsed by the CoARA Steering Board and is available on the CoARA Collection: http://www.coara.org/collection
